The task of designing a space for the reputed Abu Dhabi University was challenging. Rising up to the challenge, EDI planned to incorporate an idea that is unique to the place, speaks culturally and has a rich heritage. Hence, ‘Cosmoses’.

Following a strong connection with its culture and heritage as well as embracing international approach toward education, Abu Dhabi University itself becomes a learning Universe, creating Cosmoses of knowledge. The “Cosmoses” design theme thus supports teaching, learning and exploration process through the spatial planning, materiality and accentuated visual experiences.

Interior Design theme “Cosmoses” is based on an amalgamation of several principles inspired by the national Ghaf tree of Abu Dhabi. It represents the use of resourceful, strong and mesmerizing interior elements, reflecting the inquiring spirit of new generation and current international trends in educational interiors. A result of an idea this rich, the new campus at Al-Ain creates a holistic learning environment, whilst maintaining separate learning spaces for male and female students.

The Ghaf tree is a symbol of tolerance, strength, prosperity and stability. The concept of tolerance is reflected in the spaces allocated to social activities, their wide capacity, and the quality of the new facilities available for students and employees. Strength is demonstrated by the use of bold forms and shapes that flow through the interiors and exteriors of the building, complemented by flexible shapes which will allow students to utilize the resourceful spaces fully.

The vibrant colors that light up the campus symbolize how creativity can flourish with the power of education. The comfort and leisure of the facilities offer a peaceful place for students, faculty, and staff alike to network and encourage the principles of tolerance amongst the various nationalities represented by members of the ADU community.
