American School of Bombay-Kurla Campus, Mumbai
As a part of the expansion of the American School of Bombay, EDI was tasked with a complete rework of the main campus that was spread over a daunting 90,000 sq. ft. Expanding the main campus for Middle and High Schools, EDI had to transform the building (originally designed as a hotel space) into a school accommodation. The initial challenge was to open up the closed-interiors of the building to daylight, a hurdle that was overcome by making smart use of transparent panels. This was further complemented by opening up the main entry floor, just below the main atrium level, allowing filtered natural light directly inside the campus. Steps were also taken to reduce the overall ambient noise level. We were also able to create a Black Box performance space by raising the roof.
