EDI’s design for DSB International School takes educational architecture innovation to a whole different level. With no concept of four fixed interior walls, all of the learning process in the campus happens inside personalized pods. The freedom of pod space translates into creative, effective and intelligent learning. Simply put, children in DSB International School have a free reign of the complete floor, and are not restricted to a classroom.

Accommodating children from grade 5 to 12, the 30-year-old DSB International School building has been renovated with ‘learning pods’ defined by sliding walls or movable screens or furniture. The pods can further be conjoined to form larger areas for discussion, lecture, seminars, etc., providing no restriction for any kind of collaboration. The ‘Learning commons’ created by combining the pods in this manner are productive for group or individual learning. Specialized ‘Cave spaces’ made of furniture are prepared for activities that require extra focus at times. In addition, semi-covered ‘learning terraces’ are planned for activities, such as arts and sculpture, while the large glazed areas of the exterior walls act as a visual dialogue between the inside and outside.

DSB International School believes that ‘Learning does not happen in a vacuum’. It requires transparency, flexibility, integration and adaptability of spaces, elements seamlessly integrated into the design of the school.
