Texas Tech University, Costa Rica
Texas Tech University in Costa Rica is an integrated campus facility that builds on the success of Avenue Escazu’s live/work/play ethos and adds a transformational economic and cultural component – Learning. Learning neighborhoods, which lie along a learning street that leads to the colorful campus center. The architecture and program offerings provided have been calibrated to fit the strategic mission of the country of Costa Rica. This project can be a catalyst for progress for the region and will hopefully become a pattern for Costa Rica and other Latin American countries.
The common and general spaces in this facility are meant to mimic the creative and collaborative environments that are becoming increasingly more common in workplaces of tomorrow. The lab and specialist spaces are outfitted with state of the art equipment and the workspace is arranged in a more collaborative fashion, so students can work together more easily. The arrangement and sequence of spaces promote interdisciplinary connections; by placing all of the lab spaces around common spaces and the library in-between it allows for the free exchange of ideas and interaction between disciplines.
